The CMS rating is based on three components: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. Each component is measured individually, and they are combined for an overall rating.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, “the Five-Star Quality Rating System [is] to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily . . . . Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality.”

United Zion Retirement Community began through the efforts of Barbara & Henry Firestone, United Zion Church members, who welcomed people into their home in the early 1900s, caring for their social and health needs.
