Included in her announcements is an expanded vision of her familial legacy that involves a shared grandparental Strother relative where the famous actor Will Smith is Candy's two times removed cousin and they share "Strother as a great-grand-father." The Strother lineage includes entertainment and philanthropic visionaries. Additionally, Candy's family history includes Ophelia DeVore who is the first African American woman to become an influential and universally recognized fashion icon where she began her own fashion agency and purchased a series of news publications while being recognized for many years as a Caucasian businesswoman.
