A report by the Society for Nonprofits identifies a nonprofit’s Earned Income Component (EIC) as a vital part of its fundraising toolkit. The report recommends that all EIC fundraising is preceded by a detailed risk assessment and a thorough understanding of how fundraising aligns with the nonprofit’s mission.

The EIC funding initiative highlights the importance of earned income as a way for nonprofits to legally raise funds and attain financial self-sufficiency. The initiative details EIC as generated from the sale of goods, services rendered, or work performed for individuals or organizations. The All Things Non-Profit EIC funding initiative guides organizations through the steps to establish an income stream, EIC strategy, and short-term and long-term sustainability.

The initiative also focuses on leveraging EIC as a major component of a nonprofit’s income structure, signaling a shift away from grants, charitable contributions, or other third-party sources of income. EIC allows nonprofits to set up consistent funding for its programs and initiatives based on in-house revenue from goods or services.

According to a spokesperson for Sherman Oaks, CA nonprofit bootstrapping firm, “We believe that self-sufficiency through the development of sustainable income streams is a goal every nonprofit should aspire to achieve. We are pleased to launch the EIC funding initiative to guide nonprofits through the process of unlocking hidden income possibilities within their existing operations and the effective management of these opportunities.”

All Things Non-Profit is a bootstrapping firm that supports nonprofits and non-governmental organizations with consulting, training, and marketing solutions. More information is available at All Things Non-Profit.

In a first, Bedouin women lead tours in Egypt's Sinai

Apr 19, 2019

ABU ZENIMA, Egypt — Amid a stunning vista of desert mountains, a Bedouin woman, Umm Yasser, paused to point out a local plant, and she began to explain how it was used in medicine to the group of foreign tourists she was guiding. Umm Yasser is breaking new ground among the deeply conservative Bedouin of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Women among the Bedouin almost never work outside the home, and even more rarely do they interact with outsiders. But Umm Yasser is one of four women from the community who for the first time are working as tour guides. "It is...

The U.N. wasn't able to distribute cholera vaccines to Yemen until May 2018 and the outbreak ultimately produced more than 1 million suspected...

SANAA, Yemen — A large explosion at a warehouse in Yemen's rebel-held capital on Sunday killed at least 13 people, including seven children, and wounded more than 100, local medical officials said. The Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, who seized control of the capital in 2014, said the Saudi-led coalition had targeted the warehouse with an airstrike. The coalition denied carrying out any strikes in the area. The state-run news agency in Aden, aligned with the internationally-recognized government, said the rebels stored weapons at the warehouse. The health officials said more than 110 people were wounded in the explosion, which damaged nearby...

Apr 19, 2019

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Saudi Arabia detained 12 people, including two dual U.S.-Saudi citizens, in a new round of arrests in the kingdom targeting individuals supportive of women's rights and those with ties to jailed activists, people with knowledge of the apprehensions said Friday. It marks the first sweep of arrests to target individuals perceived as critics of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman since the killing of writer Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in October. The arrests come despite a global outcry over Khashoggi's grisly killing by Saudi agents in an operation directed by former top...
